Psalm 31:21-24 – “Blessed be the LORD, for He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city. As for me, I said in my alarm, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to You. O love the LORD, all you His godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and fully recompenses the proud doer. Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the LORD.”

*The phrase “fully recompenses the proud doer” confused me a bit, so I looked up the words in that phrase in the Strong’s concordance on the Blue Letter Bible website. From that information, I think the phrase could be interpreted, “although He brings to an end the arrogant performer.” I am no expert at using Strong’s concordance, so if anyone thinks I am completely mistaken, please let me know.

**Also, if anyone wonders why I capitalized “LORD” in those verses, it’s because that’s how it was written. It means that the original word there was for Yahweh – the one true God or the Great I AM.

Lord God, we bless Your name. I think the words of one of my favorite songs “The Great I AM” says it best, “Hallelujah! Holy, holy! God Almighty, the Great I AM! Who is worthy; none beside Thee, God Almighty, the Great I AM!” We praise You and bless You simply for who You are, so holy and magnificent and so far above us that we would not even be able to perceive You at all if You did not choose to reveal Yourself to us. Yet because of Your love for us and in Your mercy and grace, You reveal Yourself in the wonders of Creation all around us, and through Your Son who died for us so that we could have a relationship with the Great I AM. Praise You, LORD!!

Lord, we pray that You would make Your lovingkindness – Your love, mercy and unfailing love, Your covenantal love – abundantly available to the town of Trafford and those who live there. We pray that Your marvelous love would rescue people in Trafford and the surrounding communities out of darkness and into Your marvelous light! (I Peter 2:9) Every city, town and community are besieged by the enemy of our souls who would seek to steal, kill and destroy. We pray that the town of Trafford would know that You have come to give them life, abundant life in Your Son. (John 10:10)

We pray that the people of this town would never feel cut off from You. Open up the floodgates of pour out Your Spirit on this town, Lord. Let them see You. Tear down every stronghold in Trafford, Alabama that would try to exalt itself above the truth of Your omnipresence and lovingkindness. Let the whole Gospel be known and lived out in the whole church in this town, Lord God. We pray for Your Church in Trafford to love You with all the heart, soul, strength and mind; to be worthy of carrying Your name and the hope of the Gospel among their fellow citizens of Trafford and even unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

We pray for Mayor Motes and the leadership of Trafford. Let their hope for their town and their own lives be in You, Lord. We sometimes fall into looking to politics and man-made agendas to fix things, and it’s only in You that we find hope of real change. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in this town, and let these men and women be agents of Your Kingdom. Let them see Your faithfulness on their behalf and on behalf of their town.

We pray that Trafford would be a town of hope as they experience Your unfailing love and mercy on their behalf. May it rise up in courage and strength as they wait on the LORD.
