Mayor – Mary Sue Morgan

11 Miles NW of Birmingham

Originally called Gin Town in late 1800s and early 1900s

  • Only cotton gin for miles. Community grew up around it
  • Incorporated in 1945
  • In 1950s and 60s, local steel mills and coal mines caused town to grow
  • Opening of Interstate 22 has helped usher in new progress

Population in 2010 was 2, 165

Affected by strong tornado on Jan. 23, 2012

Psalm 118:1-5, 8 – “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Oh let Israel say, ‘His lovingkindness is everlasting.’ Oh let the house of Aaron say, ‘His lovingkindness is everlasting.’ ¬†Oh let those who fear the LORD say, ‘His lovingkindness is everlasting.’ From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place. …. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.”

**Here’s an interesting tidbit – Psalm 118:8 is the very center of the Bible. If I remember correctly, it has 1, 118 verses before it and 1,118 verses after it. Isn’t that amazing???

Lord God, we thank You for Your goodness and covenant love for us. You are good when we are not. You made a covenant with us and sealed it with the blood of Your Son. Your faithfulness upholds us in that covenant lovingkindness. May the citizens of Graysville experience Your lovingkindness, and then declare it to the surrounding communities through word and deed.

Thank You, Lord, for rescuing this city from economic decline, and from the destruction of the tornado in January of last year. May the people of Graysville call out to You in their distresses. We pray that Mayor Morgan and the city council would seek Your face in distress as well as in good times. May they seek You for wisdom in every decision. Let Your lovingkindness be evident throughout Graysville’s City Hall. Build up this city, Lord. Establish Graysville in peace and righteousness.

Raise up Your Church in Graysville, Lord God. Awaken them to be all that You have called them to be in their city and surrounding communities. May the Church in Graysville say, “Your lovingkindness is everlasting.” May the elders and pastors of Your Church say, “Your lovingkindness is everlasting.” Cause the Church in Graysville be evidence of Your lovingkindness and mercy to their city, the surrounding communities, and even to the world.

Bless Graysville, Alabama, Lord, according to Your will. We speak a blessing over it and over Mayor Morgan and the city council; over business leaders; over the leaders of the homes; over the children; and over everything that concerns this city, in Jesus’ name.

Leave us a comment to let us know who you are and what you are trusting God for today in regard to where you live.
