Praying for Gardendale

There was a lot of info on this city’s website – www.cityofgardendale.com

Mayor – Othell Phillips

First settlers were veterans of the War of 1812

  • After the Civil War, coal mines opened in the 1870s, causing rapid population growth.
  • Incorporated in 1955
  • Current population is around 13,000

First called Jugtown, but the name was changed to Gardendale in 1906 with a petition started by a local school teacher.

The first church was established in 1876. Originally called Chalybeate Baptist Church, but later become First Baptist Church of Gardendale.

According to its website, the city government, schools, P.T.A.s, local civic clubs and churches often work together for the good of the community.

Psalm 99:3-5 – “Let them praise Your great and awesome name; Holy is He. The strength of the King loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His footstool; Holy is He.”

Lord God, You are holy. Along with the angels and all the saints around Your throne, we cry, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and who is, and who is to come.” We can rejoice in You because You are holy. We can trust You because You are holy. We submit to You because You are holy.

We pray that You would invade every street, home, and building in Gardendale with Your holiness. May the forces of darkness be put to flight because of Your holy presence, in Jesus’ name. May Your great name be lifted up among the citizens and the leaders of Gardendale.

We pray for Mayor Phillips and Gardendale’s city council. We pray that their strength in leadership would come from Your justice and righteousness. Let equity among the people continue to be established in City Hall, and let it spread through the entire city.

Lord, it is not an American idea to bow down before anyone, but as Psalm 99:5 commands, we pray that You would cause all of us to bow down before Your throne, to come to a place of humble submission to You alone. Replace our rebellious hearts with ones that are fully surrendered to the One who made us, who loves us, and who sent His only Son to die for us. In Your great name, we pray.
