Speaking Life over Hueytown, Alabama

We have been going pretty much in alphabetical order through the cities and towns of the metro-B’ham area. Hueytown brings us to the end of the “H”s. We are about a third of the way through our goal to pray through all of the municipalities in the metro-B’ham area.

I asked my brother, who spent a lot of his teenage years in and around the Hueytown area what passage he would choose to pray over this city. He immediately responded with Ephesians 6:10-18.  It’s a powerful passage that most Christians are familiar with.  As I started to pray that passage over Hueytown, the Lord brought another verse to my mind that I believe I’m supposed to use here. It is John 10:10 – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Lord Jesus, You are life and the Life-giver. You have a plan for each of us, and You are faithful to fulfill Your plan and calling in our lives and in our cities. We pray that all of Your good plans for Hueytown would be fully accomplished. In the name of Jesus, we cancel every assignment of the enemy that would try to hinder Your plan from going forth and being fully realized on the earth as it already is in Heaven. We speak LIFE over Hueytown, over Mayor Baumann and the city council, over neighborhoods, over churches, over families, and over each individual that lives and works in this city.

I especially feel prompted to speak the name of Jesus, who is LIFE, over the teenagers and young adults in Hueytown. Lord Jesus, deliver the youth of this city from the thief who has come to steal their hope, kill their dreams for the future, and destroy their lives. Let them instead experience life in and through You. We pray for a great harvest of souls among the young people of Hueytown. Bring them to a true relationship with You through accepting Your shed blood as the forgiveness of their sins. Let them be delivered from the chains of the thief who has been trying to destroy them. Transform them into image-bearers of Christ, and change agents for the Kingdom of God.

With life, we also pray for wisdom. We pray for wisdom for the young people to make decisions that pursue life and stops the thief in his tracks; wisdom for Mayor Baumann and the city council; wisdom for business leaders in this city; wisdom for church pastors and elders; wisdom for the heads of homes. Let their wisdom begin with the fear of the Lord.

We pray that Your will would be done in Hueytown, and that the youth of this city would experience a great awakening. For Your glory!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
